AMA Delivers Interim Water Supply to Chemuenaa Residents

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has delivered an interim water supply to residents of Chemuenaa in the Ablekuma South Sub-Metropolitan District to relieve persistent water access challenges in the area.

The relief intervention, directed by the Mayor of Accra, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, serves as an immediate measure pending the drilling of two mechanised boreholes to secure a long-term water source for the community.

The initiative fulfils a promise made by the Mayor during a Community Dialogue on Social Protection, organised by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection at Saban Park.

Mr Allotey directed community leaders to select suitable sites for the upcoming borehole installations so assembly engineers can conduct technical assessments and begin construction promptly.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, announced an expansion of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, scaling up coverage from 350,000 to 400,000 beneficiary households nationwide.

She stated that the government remains resolute in ensuring that national social safety nets, including the Ghana School Feeding Programme and targeted support for persons with disabilities, effectively reach vulnerable citizens.

The dialogue also featured free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registrations and renewals for residents, alongside sensitisation sessions on child welfare and social protection policies.

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, reaffirmed his support for the exercise, pledging continued collaboration with state agencies to ensure social interventions directly benefit grassroots communities.
