Defence Minister Pushes Technology, Innovation in Ghana-Israel Security Partnership
The Minister for Defence, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has identified technology, innovation and local capacity development as key pillars for strengthening Ghana’s defence capabilities amid emerging security threats.
He said Ghana’s partnership with Israel should increasingly focus on practical areas such as advanced surveillance systems, cyber defence, personnel training, technical innovation and collaborative research to support the modernisation of the country’s defence architecture.
The Minister made the remarks when the Ambassador of Israel to Ghana, H.E. Roey Gilad, paid a courtesy visit to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities for enhanced cooperation in the defence and security sector.
The Minister said strategic cooperation between Ghana and Israel in knowledge sharing and institutional capacity-building would equip Ghanaian security institutions with the skills and technological capabilities required to respond effectively to contemporary threats.
He also proposed joint ventures and technical partnerships as avenues for promoting innovation while ensuring that defence cooperation contributes to Ghana’s wider economic and industrial development.
Mr Adjei expressed confidence that the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Israel could be further strengthened through mutually beneficial initiatives that enhance national security and support sustainable development.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to constructive engagement with Israel and to pursuing areas of cooperation that serve both countries’ interests.
The proposed areas of cooperation gained further significance following Ambassador Gilad’s disclosure that Israel was interested in establishing a manufacturing facility in Ghana.
According to the Ambassador, the initiative would deepen bilateral defence cooperation while creating employment opportunities and strengthening local capacity in the sector.
Ambassador Gilad also commended Ghana for its contribution to international peacekeeping, particularly the professionalism and dedication of Ghanaian personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
As the UNIFIL mandate draws to a close this year, he expressed appreciation for Ghana’s leadership and sacrifices in southern Lebanon, noting that Ghana’s contribution was highly valued by Israel and the international community.
The Ambassador reiterated Israel’s readiness to expand bilateral relations with Ghana and collaborate in addressing emerging security challenges.
