Finance Minister Calls for Review of Existing Policies

2 MIN READ

The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has urged the Ministries of Finance and Trade to work together to ensure they deliver measurable benefits to the Ghanaian economy.

He stated that reviews should include an assessment of the impact of policies over the years.

The Minister announced this on Wednesday during the deep-dive engagement for the new economy programme.

According to him, this initiative would identify gaps to examine how Ghana can adopt approaches that reflect the changing economic realities.

Dr Forson noted that the Free Zones Act is an area that requires introspection, following its three decades of implementation.

He said the introspection would assess the benefits derived from the programme, challenges encountered and the extent to which it has contributed to businesses supported by government incentives, and the retention of Ghana’s economic value.

On her part, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing the necessary sector-specific inputs to enrich the development of the New Economy Programme.

She lauded the Finance Ministry for the initiative in ensuring that the government’s goal for shared prosperity and Job creation for all by 2030 is attained.
