Ghana is back on track after IMF programme -President Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana’s economy is back on track following the recent completion of its International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, assuring investors that the country is open for business and ready to deepen economic partnerships.
The President gave the assurance when he received Governor Tony Evers of Wisconsin State in the United States and a business delegation at the Presidency in Accra on Tuesday.
President Mahama said the government’s ongoing economic reforms had restored investor confidence and created renewed opportunities for investment and trade.
He noted that his administration was implementing policies aimed at transforming the country’s productive sectors, with particular emphasis on expanding exports, industrialisation and value addition.
The President said the 24-hour Economy programme remained a central pillar of the government’s economic transformation agenda, explaining that it was designed to increase production, promote manufacturing and create sustainable jobs for Ghanaians.
He disclosed that Government had established an Accelerated Export Development Advisory Committee to drive Ghana’s transition into an export-oriented economy capable of competing effectively in international markets.
President Mahama also expressed Ghana’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Wisconsin in agriculture and other mutually beneficial sectors, saying the country was ready to explore new business opportunities that would create value for both economies.
He further briefed the delegation on government policies to expand access to education and develop the skilled workforce required to support Ghana’s industrialisation and long-term economic growth.
Governor Tony Evers, who is leading the trade mission, said the visit formed part of Wisconsin’s efforts to strengthen international trade relations by promoting exports from the state and creating new opportunities for businesses to expand globally.
He said the mission sought to deepen partnerships with Ghana while positioning Wisconsin as an attractive destination for companies seeking to grow their businesses and expand their international footprint.
The delegation’s visit is expected to promote greater collaboration between Ghana and Wisconsin in trade, investment and other areas of shared economic interest.
Present at the meeting were the Senior Legal Advisor to the President, Madam Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew; Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Mr Victor Smith; and the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Madam Khadija Iddrisu.
