Ghanaian Team to Receive Enhanced Medal Bonuses ahead of 2026 Commonwealth Games
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, has announced an enhanced medal bonus package for Team Ghana ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
This is to motivate athletes to compete for top honours and improve the country’s performance at the international competition.
Under the new package, Ghanaian athletes who win gold medals at the Games will receive US$10,000, with an additional personal reward of US$1,000 from the Minister. Silver medalists will receive US$3,000, while bronze medalists will receive US$2,000.
He stated that the incentives are part of efforts to encourage athletes to pursue podium finishes while recognising the commitment and sacrifices made in representing the nation.
“Government is committed to prudent financial management, but we also believe that excellence must be rewarded and athletes who bring pride to Ghana must be supported,” he said.
He urged members of Team Ghana to approach the Games with discipline, determination and a strong sense of national pride, assuring athletes, coaches and officials of the government’s continued support throughout their participation.
The Minister reiterated the need for Ghanaian athletes to remain focused on delivering strong performances at the Glasgow Games, noting that the country expects the contingent to compete with confidence and uphold Ghana’s reputation on the global sporting stage.
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation said it remains committed to improving athlete welfare, creating better conditions for preparation and ensuring that Ghanaian sportsmen and women receive recognition and support before, during and after international competitions.
