Interior Minister Receives Seized Illegal Firearms from NAIMOS

The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has received a cache of illegal firearms seized during operations conducted by the outgoing batch of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

The firearms, which were confiscated during anti-galamsey operations across the country, were officially handed over to the Minister as the current batch of NAIMOS concludes its mandate and prepares to hand over responsibilities to a new team.

Receiving the weapons on Thursday in Accra, Mr. Muntaka commended the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the NAIMOS team for their commitment and efforts in the fight against illegal mining.

He described the seizure of the firearms as an important t step in tackling the security threats often associated with illegal mining activities.

The Interior Minister subsequently handed over the firearms to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons for proper marking and destruction in accordance with the law.

Mr. Muntaka assured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to ensuring accountability in the fight against illegal mining.

He stressed that all equipment and items seized during anti-galamsey operations, particularly excavators, would be dealt with transparently and in line with established procedures.

He further called on communities and the general public to support the government and NAIMOS in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, noting that the menace continues to have devastating effects on the environment, water bodies, and the livelihoods of citizens.

The Minister charged the incoming batch of NAIMOS personnel to discharge their duties with professionalism, integrity, and dedication to ensure the success of the government’s efforts to curb illegal mining and protect the nation’s natural resources.
