National Peace Council Engages Students on Peaceful Coexistence
The National Peace Council, Ghana, through its Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC), has organised a Peace Education and Sensitisation Programme for over 600 students of Juaboso Senior High School.
The programme, held on Wednesday, aimed to educate students on the knowledge and values needed to promote peaceful coexistence and make responsible life choices.
The engagement focused on the consequences of violence in schools, the importance of adhering to school rules, and the dangers of drug abuse.
Speaking at the engagement, Acting Executive Secretary of the Western North Regional Peace Council, Mrs Elizabeth Boduwah, explained that the National Peace Council was established under Act 818 of 2011 to promote peace and prevent conflict through dialogue, mediation, and public education.
She urged students to become ambassadors of peace by choosing dialogue over violence and contributing to peaceful schools and communities.
An Eminent Member of the Council, Maulvi Zacharia Arthur, emphasised the devastating effects of substance abuse, warning that drug addiction can lead to school dropout, criminal behaviour, poor health, unemployment and the loss of future opportunities.
He called on students to stay away from drugs and urged schools, parents, religious leaders, health professionals and communities to work together in protecting young people from substance abuse.
