Ghana to Mark World Tourism Day with Eastern Expo in Koforidua
Ghana will mark this year’s World Tourism Day with a week-long celebration featuring the Eastern Expo in Koforidua, aimed at creating opportunities for investment, trade and sustainable tourism development.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts said this in a press statement issued in Accra on Tuesday.
The celebration, scheduled for September 26 to October 3, 2026, will bring together stakeholders in tourism, culture, creative arts and investment under the theme: “Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment.”
The statement says the event will give businesses, tourism operators, exhibitors, investors, policymakers, and the public a platform to showcase products and services, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
“The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, September 28, with the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, expected to lead the ceremony,” it added.
The Ministry said the celebration would highlight tourism’s role in economic growth, job creation, enterprise development, and community participation.
It stated that activities will begin on Saturday, September 26, with a health walk to promote wellness and encourage public participation in the celebrations.
The statement said the walk would also provide residents and stakeholders with an opportunity to engage in recreational activities as the Eastern Region prepares to host visitors from across the country.
Sunday, September 27, which is observed globally as World Tourism Day, will feature a sensitisation workshop on the global theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign.”
The workshop will bring together relevant stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges associated with digital technology and artificial intelligence in the tourism sector, while encouraging sustainable practices and investment in tourism-related enterprises.
The Ministry said seminars would also be held to enable participants to engage experts and industry players on tourism promotion, with emphasis on practical opportunities that could contribute to local economic development.
As part of the Eastern Expo, exhibitors will showcase various tourism products and services, creating opportunities for marketing, networking and business engagement.
The statement said the event would align with the Black Star Experience and World Tourism Day celebrations and enhance the Eastern Region’s profile as a tourism and investment destination.
It said the celebration would benefit local businesses and communities while supporting efforts to develop a sustainable tourism sector that contributes to national development and livelihoods.
