Interior Minister Urges MMDCEs to Strengthen Security Collaboration

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to strengthen collaboration with security agencies to improve the early identification and management of emerging security threats.

He said effective coordination among Regional Security Councils (REGSECs), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and security institutions is important to ensure timely responses to security concerns and maintain peace and stability in communities.

The Minister made the call while speaking at the training programme on the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026 (Act 1168) organised by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) for members of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council.

The training was designed to strengthen the capacity of MMDCEs in the Greater Accra Region, improve interagency coordination, and enhance understanding of the new legal framework governing security and intelligence operations.

Mr Muntaka emphasised the importance of ensuring that local government authorities and Regional Security Councils clearly understood their roles and responsibilities under Act 1168.

He noted that a proper understanding of the law would enable relevant institutions to work more effectively together and respond appropriately to security challenges within their respective jurisdictions.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts by the NSCS, under the Ghana National Security Reform Programme, to deepen understanding and effective implementation of the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2026 (Act 1168).
