KMA Revives ‘Samansaman’ Sanitation Drive in Bantama from July 20

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is taking its sanitation crackdown to Bantama.

In a press release on Tuesday, the KMA announced the reintroduction of the ‘Samansaman System’ in the Bantama Sub-Metro, with enforcement set to begin on Monday, July 20, 2026.

The system targets residents, traders, market operators, and corporate bodies who fail to keep their surroundings clean. Under the directive, offenders of sanitation-related laws will be arraigned before a court for “immediate punitive action.”

According to the KMA, a special task force made up of Environmental Health Officers, administrative staff, and security operatives will begin community inspections across Bantama next week.

The move follows a similar exercise carried out successfully at Dichemso in the Manhyia South Sub-Metro.

The Assembly urged the public to maintain clean environments at all times to avoid prosecution.

“We count on the public’s full compliance with this directive,” the release stated.

The ‘Samansaman System’ is part of KMA’s broader effort to improve sanitation and public health within Kumasi, which is branded “Where Ghana Happens.”
