KMA Sets July 17 for Demolition at Asafo Interchange

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a demolition exercise at the Asafo Interchange and surrounding enclaves scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, KMA said the exercise targets unauthorised structures and occupants beneath the Asafo Interchange, behind COCOBOD, and in the Takoradi Flour Mill enclave.
According to the Assembly, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to restore order, improve public safety, and reclaim public spaces that have been taken over illegally.
KMA recalled that during a recent enforcement operation at the site, its officers, City Guards, and security personnel came under attack while carrying out their duties. The Assembly warned that such “barbaric acts” will not deter it from enforcing the law.
The statement further directed all persons with temporary or unauthorised structures in the affected areas to vacate on or before Friday, July 17.
It also warned individuals using the space for prostitution, the sale of hard drugs, or other criminal activities to leave immediately, adding that the Assembly will not tolerate the use of public spaces for illegal activities.
Meanwhile, the individual or entity claiming to have lawful authorisation to occupy the area has been asked to submit documentation to the Works Department of KMA by the close of work on Tuesday, July 14.
The Assembly added that any structure without verified authorisation by Wednesday, July 15, will be considered unauthorised and demolished.
KMA urged all affected persons to comply to avoid forceful eviction without compensation for lost items or structures.
The Assembly said it appreciates public cooperation as it works to maintain law and order and create a “cleaner, safer, and more organised city.”
The statement was signed and issued by the Public Relations Unit of KMA.
