Kumbungu Records Major Development Push as Minister, DCE Account to Residents

The Kumbungu District is seeing a wave of infrastructure and social interventions in education, health, roads and youth jobs, with government officials saying the gains are the result of deliberate efforts to practice accountable and participatory governance.
This came during the Government’s Accounting to the People Series Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 held at the Bible College Training School in Kumbungu.
The forum brought together traditional leaders, assembly members, department heads, CSOs and residents to receive updates directly from the government.
Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ali Adolf John Mburudiba, said the town hall format is central to President John Dramani Mahama’s Resetting Ghana Agenda.
“Accountable leadership requires government officials to engage directly with citizens, explain policies and programmes and receive constructive feedback,” he told the gathering.
He urged residents to support government programmes and help sustain peace, describing peace as “the bedrock upon which sustainable development is built.”
The Regional Minister commended the District Chief Executive, Mr. Alhaji Imoro Yakubu Kakpagu, and the Member of Parliament (MP), Prof. Hamza Adam, for working together to deliver projects across the district.
Presenting his report, Mr. Kakpagu said the Assembly has operated an “open-door policy” to ensure resources are distributed fairly without discrimination.
Key education projects announced include the completion and handover of classroom blocks at Gbullung, Kunkulun, Zangbalun, Wuba, Voggu, Kumbun-Kukuo/Yipelnayili and Digu. Schools at Mbanayili, Tonjing, Logshegu and Jegbo have also been rehabilitated.
To ease furniture deficits, 1,200 dual desks and 320 teacher tables and chairs have been supplied. GETFund projects for Kumbungu Senior High School — including a dormitory, dining hall and assembly hall — are also progressing.
In health, two CHPS compounds and a maternity block have been completed at Bogupalgu, Dulizugu and Kumbungu under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
“The Voggu CHPS compound has been rehabilitated and talks with the Moroccan Embassy are advanced for a new CHPS at Singa. The Assembly is also pushing for an upgrade of the Kumbungu District Hospital,” the DCE reported.
On infrastructure, the DCE announced that Kumbungu has been selected to host one of Ghana’s first Agricultural Mechanisation Centres.
“Work has also resumed on the long-delayed 14-kilometre Kumbungu township roads, with more proposals submitted to the Ministry of Roads and Highways,” he added.
Electricity coverage now stands at about 90%. Ten mechanised boreholes are under construction, with six already completed, while pipe-borne water extensions continue.
He also reported that the Assembly is stepping up sanitation through refuse evacuation, toilet maintenance and Community-Led Total Sanitation.
Flagship programmes featured strongly included the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market has officially commenced in Kumbungu. Five communities have been selected by GIFEC for improved telecom services, and about 50 laptops have been distributed under the One Million Coders Programme.
On jobs, 371 young people have been engaged under YEA modules and 60 under the National Apprenticeship Programme. GH¢326,537 has been invested to support Persons with Disabilities, while LEAP disbursements to vulnerable households have hit over GH¢2.84 million. The Ghana School Feeding Programme has also expanded from 37 to 67 schools, creating jobs for more than 200 women.
As part of the exercise, the Regional Minister, DCE, MP and traditional authorities commissioned completed projects and inspected ongoing ones.
The meeting also saw the announcement of a new EPA office in Kumbungu, established through collaboration between the Assembly and Prof. Hamza Adam.
He closed by urging residents to protect public infrastructure and continue working with the Assembly to build “a peaceful, prosperous and resilient Kumbungu District.”
