Most Eastern Corridor road sections to be completed by end of 2027 – President Mahama
Most sections of the Eastern Corridor Road Project are expected to be completed by the end of 2027, while construction of the Volivo Bridge over the Southern Volta River is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of the same year.
President John Dramani Mahama gave the timelines at this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival at Agbogbo in the Volta Region, where he outlined ongoing and planned road projects in the region.
“I am pleased to announce that we will complete most segments of the Eastern Corridor Road by the end of next year, 2027,” he told the gathering.
The President also said he would cut the sod in the first quarter of 2027 for the construction of the Volivo Bridge, which is expected to improve connectivity between the southern and northern parts of the country.
“I am also happy to announce that, in the first quarter of next year, I will cut the sod to begin the construction of the Volivo Bridge over the Southern Volta River. This bridge will be a vital link on the Eastern Corridor Road, connecting the southern part of our country to the northern part,” he said.
Beyond the Eastern Corridor, President Mahama provided updates on several other road projects in the Volta Region, including the Kome and Shime roads, which are being undertaken under the government’s Big Push Agenda.
He said work on the Ho-Denu Road was progressing steadily and should be completed by 2027.
The reconstruction of the road from Central University at Miotso, near Dawhenya, to Aflao was also at the procurement stage.
On the Dabala-Savietula-Keta-Denu Highway, the President said the Minister for Roads and Highways was working to secure a contractor to commence work.
He further disclosed that the Abor-Atiavi Road had been included in the World Bank Feeder Roads Project, with procurement expected to begin soon to select contractors and mobilise them to site.
Other roads captured under the project include Toko-Tugakli, Agozo-Menkwanta to Ehin, Ajido-Toi to Lente, Toko to Dadeji, Kota to Nolopi Junction and Galusota Junction to Galusota.
President Mahama said the government recognised the importance of road infrastructure in connecting communities and supporting economic activity.
He urged the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to monitor the implementation of the projects closely to ensure that work progressed as expected.
“Your Royal Majesty, much work is underway in the Volta Region, and I urge the Regional Coordinating Council to monitor closely and supervise the progress of these projects,” he said.
