NITA Gets a New Director-General

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed that the proposed National Information Technology Agency (NITA) Act, currently before Parliament, will establish a stronger governance framework by separating the Agency’s regulatory and commercial functions.
Speaking at a ceremony on Wednesday to introduce Mr Nana Yaw Amoah-Yeboah as the new Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), he explained that the reforms are aimed at strengthening oversight, safeguarding public assets, and ensuring transparency in the management of Ghana’s digital infrastructure.
“All payments relating to NITA-managed infrastructure will henceforth be made directly to the Agency, a measure designed to improve accountability and enhance operational efficiency,” he announced.
The Minister commended outgoing Director-General Dr Mark-Oliver Kevor for his dedicated service, particularly in fortifying the National Data Centre and advancing key digital government initiatives.
Mr George noted the importance of effective regulation in driving innovation while protecting Ghana’s expanding digital and fintech ecosystem. He described Mr Amoah-Yeboah as a seasoned technology professional with more than a decade of experience in the IT sector, including extensive work on government digital transformation projects.
He urged him to promote teamwork, maintain an open-door leadership style, and build on NITA’s achievements as the Agency evolves into a stronger and more effective digital regulator.
The Board Chair of NITA, Ms Estelle Akofio-Sowah, expressed confidence in Mr Amoah-Yeboah’s ability to lead the Agency through its next phase of growth. She assured him of the Board’s full support and encouraged him to harness the expertise of NITA’s staff to advance Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr Amoah-Yeboah expressed gratitude to the Minister and Government for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to work closely with the Board, Management, and staff to build on NITA’s achievements and deliver on the government’s vision of a secure, innovative, and digitally inclusive public service.
