Northern Regional Minister Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Accelerate Socio-Economic Growth Across the Municipality

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John, has commended the Savelugu Municipal Assembly for its commitment to transparency, accountability and local development while reaffirming the government’s resolve to accelerate socio-economic growth across the municipality.

During an official visit to Savelugu, the Minister participated in the Assembly’s Accountability to the People Series, commissioned a newly completed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at Pong, and performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the Savelugu 24-Hour Economy Market.

Describing accountability as the cornerstone of good governance, Mr Ali Adolf John praised the Assembly for embracing the government’s Accountability to the People initiative, which enables Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to report directly to citizens on the use of public resources and the implementation of development projects.

The Minister said the planned 24-Hour Economy Market, a flagship project under President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Agenda, is expected to boost local trade, create jobs, strengthen agricultural value chains and position Savelugu as a key commercial hub in the Northern Region.

Presenting the Assembly’s performance, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alhassan Fuseini, disclosed that the Assembly had received more than GH¢14.5 million from the District Assemblies Common Fund to finance development projects and meet statutory obligations.

He highlighted achievements across education, healthcare, sanitation, agriculture and local economic development, including the construction of classroom blocks and CHPS compounds and the rehabilitation of health facilities.

Mr Fuseini further announced that 500 entrepreneurs had been enrolled onto the BizBox platform to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, while partnerships had facilitated the installation of 446 solar-powered streetlights and the planned construction of two waste treatment plants to convert waste into gas and electricity.
