NRSA Urges Caution Ahead of Rainy Season

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has advised all road users in Ghana to exercise extra caution during the rainy season, following recent heavy downpours that have submerged major roads in Accra and other parts of the country.

According to a press statement issued on Friday, rainfall is often accompanied by poor visibility, damaged road surfaces, and overflowing drains, all of which create hazardous conditions for motorists, pedestrians, and other road users.

The Authority reminds the public that rainy weather significantly increases the risk of traffic crashes and fatalities.

The statement urged drivers and vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are in good working condition, paying particular attention to wipers, tires, mirrors, and lighting systems.

Pedestrians are also advised to remain alert when using the roads.

The NRSA cautions against distractions such as mobile phones and headphones, which can reduce awareness of traffic and other hazards.

“Pedestrians should always position themselves where they are clearly visible to drivers before attempting to cross the road”, the statement read.
