President Mahama presents relief items to 37 Military Hospital and Mamobi Polyclinic

President John Dramani Mahama presented relief items to the 37 Military Hospital and the Mamobi Polyclinic as part of Government’s response to the recent floods that affected several parts of the country.
Speaking at the 37 Military Hospital, President Mahama recalled that the floods had been devastating, resulting in the loss of property and, unfortunately, the loss of lives.
He said assessments conducted by the National Disaster Management Organisation had recorded about 13 deaths, while approximately five or six persons remained unaccounted for.
He added that the floods had also caused extensive destruction of property, with an estimated 58,000 people temporarily displaced, some of whom had moved in with family members while others required support and protection.
He disclosed that the Minister of Finance had released about GH¢200 million to NADMO to procure relief items for persons who suffered losses due to the floods, and that the organisation had made considerable progress in distributing the items, having covered the Central, Western and Volta regions and currently completing distributions in Accra.
The items being distributed included food, rice, mattresses, buckets and other essential survival materials.
President Mahama said several philanthropic Ghanaian businesses had also responded by donating items to assist flood victims, including products such as diapers, liquid detergents, washing powder, antiseptics, disinfectants and bleach, as well as food products including Indomie and other supplies.
“NADMO is not responsible for producing these items; they are donations from private companies and organisations, and it is only appropriate that they are given to the intended beneficiaries,” he added.
He said the items presented to the hospital represented the hospitals’ share of these donations.
“We have therefore set aside a portion of the relief items to support the hospital and assist you in the excellent work you continue to do,” he said.
President Mahama thanked the management, medical professionals and staff of the 37 Military Hospital for their dedication and service to the people of Ghana.
He also presented relief items to the Mamobi Polyclinic as part of the same exercise, in recognition of the polyclinic’s role in supporting communities affected by the floods.
