President Mahama Urges Judiciary to Speed Up Delivery of Justice

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghana’s judiciary to accelerate reforms that improve the timely delivery of justice, warning that prolonged delays and avoidable adjournments continue to weaken public confidence in the courts.

He said justice delayed places immense pressure on ordinary citizens whose rights, livelihoods and freedoms often depend on the prompt resolution of legal disputes.

Addressing the swearing-in ceremony of three new Supreme Court Justices at the Jubilee House, President Mahama called for greater efficiency, technological innovation and improved access to justice across the country. 

“Justice delayed continues to impose immense pressure on our ordinary citizens. Prolonged cases, avoidable adjournments and delays in delivering judgments weaken confidence in the judicial system,” he said.

The President encouraged the judiciary to embrace appropriate technology to modernise court processes and make justice more accessible regardless of a citizen’s income, social status or geographical location.

He also urged the Supreme Court to communicate its decisions with greater clarity, saying well-reasoned judgments provide dependable guidance to lower courts, public institutions, legal practitioners and citizens.

President Mahama reminded the newly appointed Justices that behind every case file are real people whose futures may depend on their decisions.

“Approach every matter with humility, listen patiently, examine the law carefully, decide courageously, and let justice and the national interest remain your abiding purpose,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the three Justices would serve with wisdom, integrity and independence while strengthening Ghana’s democracy and the rule of law.
