Roads Ministry Confirms Progress on Major Road Link in the Central Region
The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced steady progress on the ongoing rehabilitation of the 111-kilometre Mankessim–Ajumako–Agona Swedru Road, a project that began in January 2026 and is scheduled for completion by January 2028.
According to the Ministry, physical progress currently stands at 15 per cent, with contractors completing 22 culverts of various sizes. Works underway include site clearance, demolition, earthworks, and drainage construction.
The Ministry outlined the full scope of the project, which covers pavement formation (subbase and base), construction of three hydraulic bridges at Barfikrom and Ochiso, asphaltic surfacing, and installation of road furniture and streetlights.
It emphasised that once completed, the road will serve as a critical link between the N4 Highway and the Coastal (N1) and Central Corridors (N6 & N8).
This, the Ministry added, will enhance socio-economic activities in Agona, Gomoa, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Mfantsiman, Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa, and the wider Central Region.
It will also improve the movement of people, goods, and services and strengthen inter-regional integration and national development.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the project on schedule, noting that the rehabilitation will transform trade, transport, and daily life across the Central Region.
