Transport Minister Commits to Strengthening Road Safety Data

The Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has assured that the government is ready to deepen cooperation with the Africa Road Safety Observatory and the World Health Organisation to improve the quality, timeliness, and disaggregation of Ghana’s crash data.
He made the assurance while speaking at the launch of the FIA Safe Helmets Initiative (SAHI) summit, where he emphasised the importance of reliable data in tackling road crashes and shaping effective policy.
The Minister noted that SAHI is more than a technical engagement, describing it as an expression of continental solidarity.
“No African country can solve the problem of road crashes alone,” he said.
Mr Nikpe reiterated that achieving the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030 and meeting the ambition of Sustainable Development Goal 3.6 to halve road traffic deaths requires collective effort from transport ministries, standards bureaus, and road safety agencies across Africa.
The SAHI initiative is aimed at reducing the number of road crashes by providing certified, affordable, and quality helmets for all motorcycle riders.
