RTI OFFICER PROMOTES TRANSPARENCY AT JUABEN SHS SOD-CUTTING CEREMONY

The Right to Information (RTI) Officer at the Juaben Municipal Assembly, Mr. Prince Agyei-Mensah, has reinforced the importance of transparency and citizen participation in governance by sensitizing the public on the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) during a sod-cutting ceremony at Juaben Senior High School. The event, which marked the commencement of new infrastructure projects, provided a strategic platform to engage a diverse audience, including students, teachers, traditional leaders, and community members on their right to access information.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Agyei-Mensah highlighted the significance of the RTI Act as a key tool for promoting openness, accountability, and good governance in Ghana. He explained that the law empowers citizens to request information from public institutions, thereby enabling them to stay informed about government policies, programmes, and projects that directly impact their communities. According to him, informed citizens are better equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development and democratic processes.

The RTI Officer further outlined the procedures for requesting information under the Act, emphasizing the need for public institutions to respond promptly and in accordance with the law. He assured participants of the Juaben Municipal Assembly’s commitment to upholding the provisions of the Act and facilitating access to information. The session also encouraged the public to actively engage with duty bearers and demand transparency in the execution of development initiatives.
