President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Juapong that Government remains committed to the Volivo Bridge project, disclosing that a new contractor procurement process is underway after the previous contractor withdrew.

President Mahama gave the assurance when he cut sod for the construction of a 24 hour model market at Juapong on Thursday.

“I also wish to assure the people of Juapong that we remain committed to the Volivo Bridge project. A delegation led by the Roads Minister recently travelled to Japan and concluded discussions regarding the project,” he said.

He stated that the project had suffered delays over the past eight years, which led to the withdrawal of the previous contractor, saying that because of delays over the past eight years, the previous contractor withdrew, requiring government to begin a new procurement process to select another contractor,” he said.

He mentioned that he had been assured that the process would be completed before the end of the year, after which the new contractor would commence work on the bridge.

The update on the bridge project, according to President Mahama, came as Government continued to roll out other infrastructure investments in the area, including the 24-hour economy market under construction in Juapong and ongoing road projects across the Volta Region.
