The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has called for stronger collaboration with journalists to promote transparency, accountability, and public awareness of government development initiatives across the Volta Region.

The call came during a breakfast meeting with members of the Volta Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the Residency Conference Room, where the Minister emphasised the media’s critical role in fostering informed public discourse and strengthening democratic governance.

Mr Gunu used the engagement to brief journalists on President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing “Accounting to the People” tour of the Volta Region, explaining that the initiative will update citizens on government policies, development projects, and progress made in fulfilling campaign commitments.

He noted that several development projects are underway across the region to improve the living conditions of residents and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering on its development agenda.

The Minister commended journalists in the region for their professionalism and partnership with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, urging them to continue providing accurate and balanced reporting that enhances public confidence in governance and promotes citizen participation.

The meeting brought together members of the Volta Regional GJA, led by Regional Chairman Dr Harrison Kofi Belley, and the Chief Director of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Mohammed Avona Akape, as discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the government and the media in advancing the region’s development.
