Flood Mitigation Task Force Begins Operations in Accra

The Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei and the Flood Mitigation Task Force have commenced a phased operation in several parts of Accra aimed at tackling perennial flooding.
The exercise, which began in East Legon, New England, Mayfair Estates, and Oyarifa, involves dredging drains, desilting waterways, and demolishing structures that obstructed drainage channels.
Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei stated that the sustained year-round effort is expected to restore the free flow of water in major drains and reduce the risk of flooding in vulnerable communities.
He also noted ‘the operation will be extended to other flood-prone areas across the Greater Accra Region in collaboration with the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), in line with directives from the President.’
