Gender Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Successful Rollout of Expanded LEAP Programme

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the successful rollout of the expanded Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme targeted at 400,000 beneficiary households nationwide.

She made the statement during a three-day working visit to the Northern and North East Regions to monitor the LEAP beneficiary enrolment exercise and engage key stakeholders on the implementation of the programme.

The Minister noted that the exercise provides the Ministry with the opportunity to assess field operations, identify operational challenges, and implement timely interventions to improve service delivery.

She stated that, the importance of the nationwide LEAP reassessment exercise was undertaken to update beneficiary data, strengthen the integrity of the programme, and ensure that support reaches the most vulnerable households.

She said the reassessment would help reduce inclusion and exclusion errors, strengthening fairness, accountability and effective targeting within the country’s social protection system.

Dr Lartey, during the first day of the tour, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Fuo, Abdulai Neindow, in the Sagnerigu Municipality, before proceeding to the community’s LEAP enrolment centre.

She interacted with beneficiaries, registration officials and community members, observing the enrolment process firsthand to check the efficiency of operations and confirm that eligible households are being registered transparently.
