Local Government Service Organises Orientation on AI for Regional Coordinating Directors in Kumasi
The Head of the Local Government Service, Professor Lord Kwaku Mensah, has officially opened a strategic orientation programme for Ghana’s 16 Regional Coordinating Directors (RCDs) in Kumasi.
The three-day orientation programme, organised by the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service, is being held at the Lancaster Kumasi City Hotel. It is aimed at equipping the RCDs with the requisite leadership and technical competencies to advance the government’s Reset Agenda through enhanced accountability, effective decentralisation, and improved service delivery.
It also focused on key thematic areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled governance, the 2026–2029 Decentralisation Policy Framework, legal frameworks, security, ethical leadership, and execution excellence.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, emphasised that adequate preparation is as important as performance in achieving meaningful results at the local level.
He urged the Regional Coordinating Directors to embrace innovation, demonstrate effective leadership, and align their operations with the country’s national development priorities.
Dr Amoakohene noted that as Chief Directors assume these critical responsibilities, their professionalism, integrity, and commitment would continue to shape the success of Ghana’s decentralisation agenda and contribute significantly to national development.
He reaffirmed the Ashanti Region’s commitment to promoting excellence in governance through collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
“I wish all participants fruitful deliberations and every success as they strengthen their capacities to deliver quality services for the benefit of the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
For his part, the Chairman of the programme, Akyamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, the Asafohene and Akwamuhene of Asanteman, charged the Regional Coordinating Directors to serve as accountable stewards of the people and uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and responsibility in the discharge of their duties.
The orientation is expected to strengthen coordination between the Local Government Service and the Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs), thereby promoting the effective implementation of government policies, programmes, and development initiatives across the country.
