Ashanti Regional Minister Engages Stakeholders Over Delayed Konongo-Juaso Bypass Road

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has engaged key stakeholders from the Konongo and Juaso communities to address challenges delaying the commencement of work on the Konongo-Juaso Bypass Road.

According to the Regional Minister, efforts to get the contractor to the project site have been unsuccessful due to disagreements between the Ghana Highway Authority and affected farm owners over compensation.

Following a directive from the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, during his recent visit to the Ashanti Region to inspect major road projects, Dr Amoakohene convened a meeting with all relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the impasse.

The meeting provided a platform for the parties to share their concerns, leading to an amicable roadmap to resolve the outstanding issues and facilitate the commencement of work.

As part of the agreed measures, the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) will provide the necessary security support to ensure that the contractor gains access to the site and executes the project without disruption.

Dr Amoakohene emphasised that the focus remains on removing bottlenecks, protecting the legitimate interests of affected communities, and ensuring the timely delivery of critical road infrastructure for the benefit of the people.

The intervention is expected to pave the way for work to begin on the long-awaited Konongo-Juaso Bypass Road, which will reduce traffic congestion on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
