FWSC tasked to resolve NLA staff salary losses over tax deductions
The Minister for Employment, Labour and Jobs, Dr Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has directed the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to lead discussions between the management of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and its workers to resolve salary losses linked to tax deductions.
The directive followed a high- level stakeholder meeting convened by the Ministry to address growing labour concerns at the NLA.
The meeting brought together Dr Pelpuo, senior officials of the Ministry, the NLA Board Chairman, Mr Frederick Amissah, NLA Director General, Alhaji Abdul Salam, representatives of the NLA Labour Union and the Chief Executive Officer of the FWSC, Dr George Graham.
The workers raised concerns about salary losses arising from tax-related deductions. They also cited operational challenges and administrative issues affecting their work and staff welfare.
Dr Pelpuo directed Dr Graham to immediately begin technical engagements between the NLA management and the labour union.
The discussions are expected to establish clear arrangements and timelines for addressing the salary losses suffered by affected workers.
The Minister’s intervention is also expected to help resolve the wider grievances and restore industrial calm at the Authority.
The meeting is part of the Ministry’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between employers and workers and prevent labour disputes from disrupting operations.
The parties are expected to continue engaging until they reach an agreement on the concerns raised by the NLA workforce.
