NAS Deepens Engagement with Muslim Community to Promote Emergency Response
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has stepped up engagement with religious leaders and communities to improve public awareness of emergency medical services and strengthen partnerships that can help save lives.
The Service took this approach to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, when a delegation led by its Deputy Director of Public Relations, Mr Yussif Kewura, paid him a courtesy visit.
The delegation included the Greater Accra Regional Administrative Manager, DCAEMT Daniel Asare, selected Station Managers and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
During the meeting, NAS outlined its mandate and gave an overview of its operations, with particular emphasis on emergency response, pre-hospital care and the transportation of critically ill and injured persons to appropriate health facilities.
Mr Kewura also conveyed the intention of the Chief Executive Officer of NAS, Dr (Med) George Kojo Owusu, to pay a formal visit to the National Chief Imam. He further requested the prayers and continued support of the National Chief Imam for the CEO, management, and personnel of the Service.
He noted that emergency medical response was a demanding responsibility that often required personnel to work under intense pressure and within limited time to save lives. He therefore stressed the importance of prayers, divine guidance and protection for ambulance personnel as they carried out their duties.
The engagement further underscored the role religious leaders and faith-based communities can play in strengthening emergency preparedness and educating the public on appropriate responses during emergencies.
Particular attention was drawn to the importance of using the national emergency number (112) to promptly activate emergency medical services when needed.
The visit forms part of NAS’s broader stakeholder engagement efforts aimed at building stronger relationships with communities and institutions across the country while promoting greater public understanding and use of emergency medical services.
Through such partnerships, the Service seeks to enhance public awareness, encourage timely calls for emergency assistance, and ultimately support its mandate of delivering quality and timely emergency medical care.
