NHIA Boosts Nationwide Operations with 40 New Vehicles

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has taken steps to strengthen its field operations with the acquisition of 40 new pickup vehicles to support the delivery of services under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) nationwide.

The vehicles, which are expected to improve mobility and operational efficiency, were unveiled on Wednesday by the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, at the Authority’s Head Office in Accra.

The intervention comes as the NHIA intensifies efforts to expand active NHIS membership to 80 per cent and contribute to Ghana’s drive towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Dr Bampoe said the additional vehicles would enable staff to carry out their duties more effectively and improve the Authority’s ability to reach communities and undertake its activities across the country.

He expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for providing the resources to support the Authority’s operations, saying the investment placed an added responsibility on staff to deliver results.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. Let us work hard together to achieve the 80 per cent membership target and move closer to Universal Health Coverage,” he said.

Dr Bampoe urged officers who would be assigned the vehicles to use them responsibly and strictly for official purposes to ensure that the resources served their intended objective.

The Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Administration and Human Resources, Mr Ralph Segkpeb, said the 40 vehicles were procured this year and would be distributed to different parts of the country according to operational requirements.

He said the vehicles would enhance the NHIA’s capacity to undertake field activities while improving the delivery of its mandate nationwide.

Dr Bampoe also recognised the contributions of the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson; the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; and the NHIA Governing Board to efforts to strengthen the Authority’s operations.
