Climate Minister Calls for Climate Action in Local Development Plans
The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, has called for climate action to be integrated into local development planning to protect vulnerable communities and support sustainable livelihoods.
He made the call at the Ghana National Climate and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Policy Summit 2026 in Accra, organised by the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability in collaboration with Intelligence Nature International.
Speaking on the theme, “Decoding Policy and Regulation for the Next Economy,” Mr Issifu said Ghana must translate its climate commitments into practical actions, investment opportunities and measurable development outcomes.
The Minister called for stronger policy coordination, increased climate finance and sustainable business practices to position Ghana competitively in the emerging green economy.
He identified institutional coordination, climate finance mobilisation, credible carbon markets, ESG reporting and Ghana’s engagement at COP31 as key priorities.
Mr Issifu also urged businesses to prepare for emerging international regulations, particularly the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), through improved energy efficiency and emissions reporting.
He said government, the private sector, financial institutions and development partners must work together to attract investment, strengthen industrial competitiveness and build climate resilience.
The Minister further urged participants to develop practical recommendations aimed at improving regulatory clarity, strengthening accountability and unlocking investment for Ghana’s green transition.
