NDPC Director-General Urges Ghanaian Businesses to Expand Across Africa

• 2 MIN READ

The Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr Audrey Smock Amoah, has encouraged Ghanaian-owned enterprises to take advantage of opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to expand their businesses across Africa.

She made the call at the 30th anniversary celebration of Magvlyn Industries Limited, manufacturers of Mobile Water, held under the theme, “The Role of Ghanaian Enterprises in Advancing Sustainable National Development.”

Dr Amoah said the growth of Magvlyn Industries from a small-scale operation in a family home in Accra in 1996 to an expanded business operating beyond Ghana demonstrated the potential of local enterprises to compete and grow across the continent.

She noted that the company’s expansion into Togo, Benin and Liberia reflected the opportunities available to Ghanaian businesses through strategic investment and innovation.

Referring to the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority Act, 2026 (Act 1173), the Director-General encouraged established businesses to explore available incentives and opportunities to expand their investments, particularly within Africa.

She said Ghanaian enterprises had an important role to play in extending local brands across the continent and contributing to economic growth and sustainable development.

Dr Amoah also noted that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) remained central to Ghana’s economy through their contribution to employment creation, household incomes and national output.

The Chief Executive Officer of Magvlyn Industries Limited, Magnus Nunoo, said the company had built 30 years of experience in water production through sustained investment in technology and efforts to make quality drinking water accessible to Ghanaians.

He explained that the company had expanded from sachet water production into bottled water, jar water and commercial water treatment, with plans to bring safe drinking water closer to more communities.

Mr Nunoo also called for improved waste disposal infrastructure and the effective enforcement of anti-littering regulations to help address plastic waste challenges.
