Gender Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting the Vulnerable Following Heavy Rains

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MOGCSP), has extended its sincere thoughts to all individuals, families and communities affected by the recent heavy rains experienced across parts of the country.
It stated this in a press statement released on Monday in Accra.
The Ministry commended the emergency response agencies, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, security services, volunteers, community leaders and Ghanaians who continue to demonstrate compassion and selflessness in supporting those affected.
It said as the situation continues to evolve, MoGCSP is working closely with relevant government institutions to ensure that social protection remains central to response and recovery efforts.
It added that particular attention is being given to the needs of children, older persons, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to ensure they receive the care, protection and support required during this difficult period.
It stated that the government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare, dignity and wellbeing of those most at risk. Effective social protection is strengthened when families, neighbours, communities, businesses, faith-based organisations, civil society organisations and development partners work together to support those in need.
“Our collective actions before, during and after emergencies are essential to ensuring that no one is left behind.”
The ministry encouraged households to take practical steps to strengthen their preparedness for future emergencies, keeping important documents in a safe and easily accessible place, maintaining up-to-date emergency contact information, regularly checking on the elderly, neighbours living alone and persons with disabilities, and ensuring that children understand basic safety measures.
The statement added that employers should prioritise employee wellbeing during severe weather, possibly, flexible work arrangements, timely communication and consideration.
It stated that MoGCSP will continue to work in collaboration with government institutions, humanitarian and development partners, civil society organisations and local communities to ensure that the needs of children, older persons, persons with disabilities, survivors of abuse and exploitation, and other vulnerable populations remain at the centre of emergency response, recovery and longer-term resilience-building efforts.
