The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a student at the school.

The two suspects have also been arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the GES said the alleged incident involved a student with special needs who is on medication.

The Service said preliminary reports indicated that the student suffered a relapse on the day of the incident and required medical attention.

The alleged assault reportedly occurred during the period when the student was receiving attention.

The GES said investigations into the matter are ongoing. It added that appropriate sanctions would be applied in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana if the allegations are established.

Management has cautioned staff of the Service to maintain professional standards and protect the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every student. The GES said it would not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students.

It has also assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter is being handled with the seriousness it deserves.
