Education Ministry to Assess Mini Lab Project for Possible Integration into STEM
The Ministry of Education has initiated a review of a proposed STEM Education Mini Lab Project to determine how it could complement existing teaching resources and strengthen practical science education in schools across Ghana.
The directive was issued by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, following a presentation by 3S Technology and its partner, Coderina EdTech, on the Adwenpa Project—an innovation designed to enhance the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
As part of the assessment process, the Minister tasked the Director of STEM Education at the Ghana Education Service (GES), Madam Olivia Serwaa Opare, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS), Dr Diyawu Mumin, to work with the project’s developers to evaluate the Mini Lab against the STEM learning resources currently in use.
According to the minister, the initiative represents a practical innovation that could make STEM education more interactive and accessible. He noted that by giving learners hands-on experience, the Mini Lab has the potential to move classroom instruction beyond theory and deepen students’ understanding of scientific concepts.
The Adwenpa Project comprises more than 40 STEM learning modules that are aligned with the Ghana Education curriculum. Housed in a self-contained Mini Lab, the modules are designed to support practical learning for pupils from Primary Four through to Junior High School Form Three.
