Ghana Deploys 61 Nurses to Grenada Under Labour Exchange Programme
Ghana has deployed a second batch of 61 nurses to Grenada under a bilateral labour arrangement aimed at creating overseas employment opportunities for qualified Ghanaian professionals.
The nurses were seen off at the airport on Tuesday by the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, and the Chief of Staff, Dr Julius Debrah, who represented President John Dramani Mahama at the departure ceremony.
Addressing the nurses, Mr Agyekum urged them to uphold the professionalism, discipline and dedication associated with Ghanaian workers and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare system in their host country.
He reminded them that their conduct and performance would not only shape their professional reputation but also influence efforts to secure similar opportunities for other Ghanaians.
The Minister said the government was pursuing additional overseas employment opportunities for Ghanaian workers, stressing that the success of the Labour Exchange Programme would depend partly on the ability of those deployed to demonstrate competence, hard work and responsibility.
He encouraged the nurses to serve as ambassadors of Ghana, protect the country’s image and maintain strong ties with their families and homeland while making the most of their new professional opportunities.
Mr Agyekum noted that positive feedback from employers in Grenada and other partner countries could help build confidence in Ghanaian professionals and encourage further recruitment.
For his part, Dr Debrah said he was at the airport on behalf of President Mahama to bid the nurses farewell and wish them success as they began a new chapter of their careers.
He urged them to remain committed to their duties, work diligently, and make Ghana proud through their service. He also wished them a safe journey and success in their assignments.
The deployment highlights Ghana’s efforts to strengthen bilateral labour cooperation while opening up international employment opportunities for its skilled workforce.
The nurses were accompanied to the airport by the Minister, the Director of Labour and Employment, the Acting Chief Labour Officer and other officials.
The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating decent employment opportunities for Ghanaians, deepening international labour partnerships and preparing Ghanaian workers to contribute to the development of both their host countries and Ghana.
