The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has called for stronger collaboration among African countries and development partners to promote safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems across the continent.

Speaking at the Africa Regional Dialogue on Active Mobility at the University of Cape Coast, the Minister said collective action was needed to advance transport systems that respond to the needs of all road users.

He noted the importance of walking and cycling as part of everyday transportation and urged African countries to take practical steps to promote active mobility.

Mr Nikpe stated that Ghana remains committed to improving pedestrian walkways, developing bicycle lanes and strengthening road safety measures to reduce crashes and protect vulnerable road users.

The Minister also mentioned the need for transport systems that prioritise the safety and mobility needs of pedestrians, cyclists and persons with disabilities.
