KMA, MediLab Hold Health Walk to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in collaboration with MediLab Diagnostic Services Limited, has embarked on a health walk through some principal streets of Kumasi to raise awareness of breast cancer and promote early detection.
The exercise, held on Wednesday, formed part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, popularly known as Pink Month, observed annually to educate the public on the disease and encourage preventive healthcare practices.
Participants from both institutions wore T-shirts bearing breast cancer awareness messages to emphasise the importance of breast care, regular screening and early detection in the fight against the disease.
The walk commenced at 10:20 a.m. at the KMA premises in Adum and proceeded through the Kejetia Roundabout to the MTN Roundabout, the Zoo area and the frontage of the Cultural Centre.
From there, the procession continued along the Bantama-Kokooase Road to Bantama Market before moving through the main Bantama Street to the Gee Roundabout. The exercise ended at the MediLab building.
Accompanied by a brass band, the participants engaged traders, hawkers, transport operators and other members of the public along the route, using banners, placards and a public address system to disseminate breast cancer awareness messages. They also distributed educational flyers to enhance public understanding of the disease.
The exercise attracted the attention of members of the public, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in promoting breast cancer awareness and encouraging early detection.
The initiative by KMA and MediLab forms part of broader efforts to educate the public on breast cancer and encourage individuals to take proactive steps towards protecting their health.
