KMA Engages Stakeholders on Proposed 2027 Fees and Rates

• 2 MIN READ

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has engaged stakeholders and contributors to its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) to discuss proposed fees and rates for the 2027 fiscal year.

The meeting, held on Tuesday at the CLOGSAG Hall in Adum, Kumasi, brought together business owners, traders, transport operators, artisans, landlords and Assembly Members to deliberate on the proposed revenue measures.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to paying reasonable fees and rates to support the development of Kumasi. They also offered suggestions and raised concerns, which were noted by officials of the Assembly for consideration.

Presenting the proposed fees and rates, the Principal Budget Analyst, Mr Eric Nunoo, outlined the various rateable items and their proposed charges for 2027.

He explained that the exercise was particularly important because most of the rates were being reviewed for the first time in five years. He therefore urged ratepayers to cooperate with the Assembly to ensure effective revenue mobilisation.

Mr Nunoo further disclosed that a few new items had been introduced into the revenue list.

He assured participants that their inputs would be forwarded to the Revenue Sub-Committee and other relevant committees for consideration before the proposals were submitted to the General Assembly for final approval.

In an address delivered on behalf of the Mayor of Kumasi, the Metro Budget Analyst, Mr Jones Kani, commended stakeholders for responding to the invitation and participating in the deliberations.

He explained that the Fee Fixing Resolution meeting was held in compliance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), which requires assemblies to consult stakeholders before fixing fees and rates.

Mr Kani reiterated that all concerns and recommendations raised during the meeting would be submitted to the appropriate committees for consideration ahead of the final decision by the General Assembly.

For his part, the Presiding Member of the KMA, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, expressed appreciation to participants for their active involvement and the concerns they raised.

He assured them that the interests of both the people of Kumasi and the Assembly would be taken into account during deliberations by the General Assembly.

The Chief Linguist of the Asemhene, Nana Opoku Agyemang, who chaired the meeting, thanked the city authorities for organising the forum and providing stakeholders with the opportunity to contribute to the proposed fees and rates.

He expressed optimism that the suggestions and concerns raised would receive due consideration in the final deliberations.
