Ghana Honours Swiss Ambassador at National Day Celebration

Ghana has paid tribute to Switzerland’s outgoing Ambassador, Her Excellency Simone Giger, during the 735th Swiss National Day celebration at the Embassy in Accra.

Speaking on behalf of the President last Friday, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, noted the strong bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Ghana and Switzerland.

He commended Ambassador Giger’s dynamic role in strengthening ties throughout her tenure stating, “Your tenure has been marked by dynamism, openness and a clear commitment to advancing cooperation between our two countries. You leave behind a legacy of partnership, which we are confident will continue in the years ahead.”

The Minister referenced  an Akan proverb shared by the Ambassador  “Anomaa anntua a ɔbua da” (a bird must fly in order not to go hungry) to emphasise the importance of continuous effort and collaboration.

Mr George concluded with the words of Ghana’s founding President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah: “Forward ever, backward never.”

The ceremony ended with a formal toast to the health of Swiss President Guy Parmelin and to the enduring friendship between Ghana and Switzerland.
