Ghana Maritime Authority Secures Sea Training Opportunity for Ghanaian Cadet
The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has secured another sea training opportunity for a Ghanaian cadet to support the development of the country’s maritime workforce.
A Ghanaian Electrical Cadet, Justine Dela Amenuvor, on Tuesday boarded the K Segar vessel of Pacific International Lines (PIL) at the Tema Port to begin a mandatory 12-month training programme at sea.
He was accompanied by a GMA Port State Control Officer, Capt Samuel Ofori-Danquah, who officially handed the cadet over to the ship’s Captain.
The practical training forms a key requirement for obtaining an officer’s licence and is expected to provide the cadet with the technical skills and experience required for a career at sea.
The placement follows engagements led earlier this year by the Director-General of the GMA, Kamal-Deen Ali, with the leadership of PIL to create more opportunities for Ghanaian cadets to gain seagoing experience.
According to the Authority, the partnership has already secured practical training placements for eight Ghanaian cadets, with a target of placing 15 cadets by the end of the year.
The GMA said it continues to engage international shipowners and maritime partners to increase access to sea-time training and support the career development of Ghanaian seafarers.
The K Segar arrived and berthed at the Tema Port on October 26, 2026, ahead of the commencement of the cadet’s training programme.
