Transport Minister Calls for Digital Systems to Support Trade and Logistics
The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has called for stronger collaboration among government institutions and industry stakeholders to improve trade and transport efficiency in Ghana.
He made the call at the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents, known as the Accra Convention.
Mr Nikpe said effective implementation of the Convention would require coordinated efforts across institutions, supported by modern infrastructure and digital systems.
According to him, such measures are important to strengthening Ghana’s position as a competitive transport and logistics hub.
The Minister noted that the Convention provides an opportunity to reduce documentation barriers, improve coordination across different modes of transport and facilitate trade financing for businesses.
Mr Nikpe also reiterated Ghana’s commitment to improving international trade and transport efficiency.
The Accra Convention establishes a common legal framework for cargo documents across road, rail, air and sea transport and includes provisions for both paper-based and electronic documents.
