Government To Resume Work on Osenase E-Block SHS
The Government has announced plans to resume construction of the stalled Osenase E-Block Community Day Senior High School in the West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region as part of efforts to expand access to quality secondary education.
The announcement was made by the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, during the commissioning of a six-unit classroom block with an office and store at Osenase and a three-unit kindergarten block at Bunso.
Mrs Awatey disclosed that preparations were far advanced to bring the contractor back to the site to complete the long-abandoned E-Block project.
She explained that the E-Block Community Day Senior High School initiative was introduced by President John Dramani Mahama in 2012 to construct 200 progressive day senior high schools nationwide to increase access to secondary education, ease congestion in existing schools, and improve teaching and learning.
However, work on several of the projects, including the Osenase facility, stalled after the change of government in 2016.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure, enhancing teacher capacity, and ensuring equitable access to quality education across the country. She assured residents that her office would continue to collaborate with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to achieve these objectives.
Mrs Awatey also commended the West Akyem Municipal Assembly, contractors, and other stakeholders for their contributions toward the successful completion of the newly commissioned classroom facilities.
The Municipal Chief Executive for West Akyem, Ms Paulina Akabila, said the Assembly had undertaken several development projects, including school blocks, health facilities, and boreholes, within the past 18 months. She urged residents to continue supporting government development initiatives.
The Member of Parliament for West Akyem, Mr Owen Kwame Frimpong, called on community members, particularly pupils, to protect the newly commissioned facilities by reporting acts of vandalism or misuse to the appropriate authorities.
He assured them that individuals who help safeguard public infrastructure would be recognised.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Loretta Akua Ayisi, expressed appreciation to the government for the investment in education and encouraged teachers to make effective use of the new facilities while remaining committed to nurturing learners.
She also urged pupils to study diligently and make their families, community, and the nation proud.
