HALO Trust Explore Partnership on Weapons Management and Border Security

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and The HALO Trust Ghana have initiated discussions to strengthen collaboration in weapons and ammunition management, small arms control, and border security as part of efforts to enhance national security systems.

The discussions took place during a courtesy call on Wednessday by The HALO Trust Ghana team on the Customs Division at its Divisional Headquarters.

The Commissioner of Customs, Mr. Aaron Kano stated the importance of partnerships in tackling the illegal movement of arms and improving security at the country’s borders.

He noted that collaborative efforts among key stakeholders are essential to addressing emerging security threats and ensuring effective weapons control.

Representatives of The HALO Trust delivered a presentation outlining the organization’s global mandate and operations across more than 30 countries.

The team highlighted its expertise in weapons and ammunition management, including safe storage assessments, training programmes, stockpile management, and the destruction of obsolete arms and ammunition.

Members of the Customs management team also contributed to the discussions, stating the need for closer cooperation, intelligence sharing, and technical assessments to improve weapons management and strengthen border security measures.

Both parties expressed a commitment to deepening collaboration through future assessments, capacity-building initiatives, and specialized training programmes aimed at promoting safe, secure, and effective weapons management practices in Ghana.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts to enhance national security and strengthen institutional capacity in the control and management of arms and ammunition.
