Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Gives Final Vacation Notice Ahead of Suame Interchange Works

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a final notice instructing all traders, garage operators, businesses, and property occupants within the designated project area at Abrepo Junction and its adjoining sections to voluntarily vacate the site by Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The directive forms part of critical measures to clear the area for the commencement of preparatory and enabling works under Phase 1 of the Suame Interchange Project.
According to the Assembly, Phase 2 of the Suame Interchange Project is currently 87% complete and is on track to be opened to traffic by the end of October 2026.
The completion of Phase 2 will pave the way for intensive construction works under Phase 1, which encompasses a three-tier interchange at Suame, two overpasses at Abrepo and Krofrom Junctions, and the widening of the Eastern and Western Bypass Roads.
Preparatory activities at the Abrepo section will include the relocation of affected utility lines, specifically Ghana Water Company Limited pipelines and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) infrastructure, as well as traffic management preparations along the corridor.
The KMA emphasised that following earlier stakeholder consultations, affected occupants were granted ample time to relocate voluntarily.
However, starting Thursday, October 8, 2026, a designated demolition and enforcement team from the KMA will begin the forceful removal of all unauthorised structures, goods, equipment, and materials remaining within the project zone.
”Occupants are strongly advised to remove their belongings and vacate the affected areas on or before the October 4 deadline,” the Assembly stated, warning that it will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to items left behind after the cutoff.
To facilitate a smooth transition, traders seeking alternative spaces have been directed to relocate to the Racecourse Market.
Garage operators requiring assistance in identifying suitable relocation sites are advised to contact the Works Engineer at the Racecourse Market.
The KMA urged full public cooperation to ensure the timely execution of the Suame Interchange Project, which aims to significantly relieve traffic congestion, enhance urban transportation, and boost the overall road network in the Kumasi Metropolis.
