The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, has met with a five-member delegation from Fosun Medical Technology, a China-based emergency medical service provider.
The meeting held on Wednesday in Accra forms part of NAS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency medical services through strategic international partnerships and the adoption of modern technologies.
During the meeting, the Information Technology Expert of the Fosun delegation, Mr. Li Qianjian George, stated how a partnership between them explore opportunities for collaboration and innovative solutions to enhance emergency healthcare delivery in Ghana.
He highlighted several technological innovations, including integrated information systems, mobile medical oxygen plants, tracking devices, communication equipment, and emergency response procedures.
Mr. Li explained how China’s emergency response system could be adapted to meet the operational needs of the National Ambulance Service.
He noted that the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology helps distinguish prank calls from genuine emergency cases, thereby improving response efficiency and reducing delays.
According to him, China’s emergency medical services maintain an average response time of between eight and ten minutes.
He added that each ambulance is staffed by a doctor, a nurse, and a driver, while the country’s ambulance-to-population ratio stands at one ambulance for every 15,000 people.
The leader of the delegation, Mr. Zhang Bing Byron, emphasized the importance of establishing a robust Information Technology infrastructure within the National Ambulance Service.
He also highlighted other technological interventions implemented in China that could support efforts to enhance Ghana’s emergency response framework.
Dr. Owusu expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and the insights shared.
He also invited the team to participate in the upcoming Medical Conference scheduled for September 2026 in Ghana, where discussions on a possible partnership are expected to continue.
