President Mahama Calls for Peaceful End to World Conflicts, Cites Trade Disruptions

President John Dramani Mahama has called for peaceful resolutions to conflicts around the world and stronger international cooperation against terrorism, warning that wars continue to cause human suffering and disrupt global logistics and supply chains.

Speaking the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, President Mahama acknowledged Russian President Vladimir Putin’s willingness to resume trilateral talks concerning the conflict with Ukraine, expressing support for efforts to achieve lasting peace and security for both Russia and Ukraine.

“Mr President, the world is currently plagued by conflict and insecurity. This has caused death and considerable suffering in various theatres of war. It has also severely disrupted global logistics and value chains,” he said.

President Mahama said the effects of armed conflicts extended beyond the countries directly involved, affecting international trade, economic activities and the movement of goods through global supply chains.

He called on countries to pursue dialogue and amicable solutions to conflicts rather than allow violence and insecurity to continue.

“Ghana calls for an amicable resolution of the various conflicts ongoing around the world,” he stated.

The President acknowledged President Putin’s willingness to resume trilateral talks concerning the conflict with Ukraine and his call for lasting peace and security for both countries.

He said continued international engagement was necessary to address conflicts and promote stability.

Beyond conflicts between countries, President Mahama called for stronger international cooperation and solidarity in the fight against terrorism, particularly in territories of the Alliance of Sahel States.

“We must also strengthen international cooperation and solidarity in the fight against terrorism, especially in the territories of the Alliance of Sahel States,” he said.

His call comes amid concerns about insecurity in the Sahel, where terrorism poses challenges for regional peace and stability.

President Mahama stressed the importance of cooperation among countries in addressing shared security threats and working towards a more peaceful international environment.

The President’s remarks formed part of his broader appeal for international solidarity and peaceful cooperation. He maintained that addressing conflict and insecurity was necessary not only to protect lives but also to reduce disruptions to trade, logistics and economic development.

At the summit, President Mahama also discussed opportunities for Ghana-Russia cooperation in energy, agriculture, technology and investment, urging leaders to ensure that international partnerships produce practical outcomes that improve the lives of their citizens.
