Sentuo Airport Garden City Project Must Deliver Lasting Economic Benefits- President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the developers of the US$1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project to ensure that its economic benefits continue long after construction is completed.

Addressing the sod-cutting ceremony, the President said the project’s success should be judged by the opportunities it creates for Ghanaian businesses, workers and communities rather than the scale of its buildings alone.

“The true value of this project will not be measured solely by the number or scale of the buildings that are constructed, but by its contribution to our economy, the quality of the urban environment that it creates, and above all, the opportunities that it delivers to the Ghanaian people,” he said.

President Mahama explained that the completed development would require a wide range of goods and services through its hotel, conference centre, residential apartments, healthcare facilities, retail outlets and leisure amenities.

He said the resulting demand would create sustained opportunities for transport operators, hospitality businesses, suppliers, artisans, farmers and other entrepreneurs across the country.

The President stressed that the economic impact of the investment must extend beyond the airport enclave and contribute meaningfully to national development by supporting decent jobs and stimulating local enterprise.

He further expressed the hope that when the project is completed, it would be remembered for the Ghanaian businesses that had grown because of it, the young people who had acquired valuable skills and the workers whose livelihoods had improved.

President Mahama said Government would continue supporting investments that create enduring value for the Ghanaian economy while ensuring that development remains inclusive and beneficial to local communities
