Seven companies shortlisted for Keta Port strategic partnership

Seven companies have been shortlisted from 47 expressions of interest submitted for a strategic partnership with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) towards the development of the Keta Port.

President John Dramani Mahama provided the update at this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival at Anloga in the Volta Region, saying the shortlisted companies would proceed to the next stage of completing designs and arranging financing for the project.

“Your Majesty, to update you on the status of the port, I am pleased to announce that 47 companies submitted expressions of interest in partnering with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority as strategic partners for the port’s development,” he said.

He explained that a due diligence exercise had been conducted, reducing the number of prospective partners to seven.

“Due diligence has been conducted, and the list has been shortlisted to seven companies. These seven companies are proceeding to the next stage, which involves completing the designs and arranging the financing for the project to commence,” President Mahama said.

The next stage is expected to establish the technical and financial arrangements required before the development of the port can commence.

The President also disclosed that work on the port’s administration block, which was started under the previous administration, was expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

“The administration block, which was commenced under the previous administration, will be completed by the end of the first quarter of next year,” he said.

The Keta Port is expected to create economic opportunities for the Volta Region and support commercial activity in the coastal area.

President Mahama said the government had taken note of the concerns raised by the Awoamefia and the people of Anlo about the need to see progress towards a functioning port.

“Your Royal Majesty, your message on the Keta Port is clear. The people wish to see progress towards a functioning port and the associated economic opportunities,” he said.

The development of the port was among several issues addressed by the President at the festival, which also included coastal protection, industrial investment, road infrastructure, education and healthcare
