Volta Minister Calls for Investment to Unlock Region’s Tourism Potential
The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has called for increased investment in tourism infrastructure, destination marketing and community participation to position the Volta Region as a leading destination for sustainable tourism in Ghana.
He made the call at the fourth Volta Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held in Ho, where he highlighted the region’s natural attractions and cultural heritage as key resources for tourism development and job creation.
Mr Gunu identified Mount Gemi, Wli Waterfalls, Lake Volta and the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary among the attractions that could help strengthen the region’s appeal to both local and international visitors.
He stressed the need for strategic investment to improve tourism facilities, empower communities to participate in the industry and protect natural resources.
He added that effective destination branding and marketing would be important in attracting visitors and creating economic opportunities for residents.
The Minister also congratulated the GJA for recognising excellence and dedication in journalism, and commended the nominees and award recipients for their contributions to public information, democracy and national development.
As part of efforts to support the development of the Volta Regional GJA Press Centre, Mr Gunu donated GH¢10,000, bringing the total funds raised for the project to GH¢30,000.
He further announced a commitment by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, to undertake the roofing works at the centre, provide 10 air conditioners and contribute an additional GH¢20,000 towards the project.
The awards ceremony was held under the theme, “Unlocking the Tourism Potential of Ghana: Positioning the Volta Region as the New Sustainable Frontier.” It brought together the former Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, government officials, heads of institutions and other dignitaries.
